A Day in the DeltaA friend of mine from Delaware, Dave Wolanski, had a photo challenge this past weekend using disposable cameras. The theme was "My World," and we were given a single weekend to make the photographs. Since I was already planning to be out of town I decided to use the Mississippi Delta as "My World." The camera I used is one that I've had for a few years. It was a Fuji disposable with ISO 1000 speed film that has been out of date almost 5 years. Besides being out of date, it had been stored in a not so cool environment. The project was a lot of fun and challenged me quite a bit since I was forced to "zoom with my feet" and depend on the camera for the correct exposure, which I had absolutely no control over. Here are few images from the weekend. First up is a photo of the inner circle at The Shack Up Inn in Clarksdale, Mississippi. If you are looking for a place to stay that is both unique and a lot of fun.... definitely try it out. Tell Guy and Bill I sent you.
Here is a photo of the bottle tree that is in Shack Circle. When we got up Saturday morning, the group in the shack next to us had apparently been up all night. I saw the beer bottle and thought that would be a great addition.
Next up is the New Roxy theater in downtown Clarksdale. The New Roxy doesn't have a roof but that doesn't stop its use. It has become a great venue for the local blues artists that seem to like performing there. Just around the corner and across the tracks is what has become the most recognizable blues club in the Delta - Ground Zero - which is owned by Morgan Freeman and local attorney, Bill Luckett. Finally, here is the old church that sits north of Rolling Fork, Mississippi. This old church was built in 1878 for the plantation workers and sits on the property with Mont Helena, which is an old plantation home built on top of a ceremonial Indian mound.
